Germ-ridden Pit of Misery

News from the germ-ridden pit of misery (we used to call it our home):

My husband went back to work this afternoon after almost 4 days under the influence of this ghastly virus. Oldest, youngest and I spent the day curled up among blankets and pillows, each moaning softly in our own quiet corners. Middle still won't come near any of us. Smart girl.

Coughs, fevers, aches and dizziness....check.
Fluids, ifuprofen, cough meds and tissues....check.

"That was really horrible," my husband said. "I haven't been that sick in years."
"uuuggghhhmmmmmmfffff," I replied.
"Yep," he agreed. "horrible."

  1. I was wondering what was happening on the sofa. Sorry you aren't any better. You haven't lost your talent for putting the right words together through this sickness. Love the whole first line! Keep the fluids flowing.

  2. Oh well written! I love the fact that you never named your family members - keeps the point of the story moving so we don't focus on the people as much as the story surrounding the people. "Middle still won't come near any of us. Smart girl." Such craft in those two lines. I laughed so loud when I read this. Great writing!

  3. Thisi makes for a good post!! It's part of life!!! My hubby and I got sick twice this year with coughs both times that wouldn't stop. Then when we thought we were getting better, we'd get sick all over again!

  4. Oh, I am sorry you're sick though. My line of "it's part of life," sure doesn't offer any sympathy--sorry.

  9. Urgh is right! I knew he was sick when he didn't want to play XBox360 this week...Hopefully you'll be up and feeling better by the weekend. Eli says 'hi!' He said, "Oh, that's not good," when I told him you were all sick. :(
